Bike2School

A program that solves the long-distance challenges of students to and from schools by providing them with bicycles.

Our Impact

Currently, Bikes2School operates in four regions: Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Shinyanga, and Dodoma. In these regions, our focus is on schools in rural areas. Through this program, we distribute bicycles, with 90% allocated to girls. This allocation is particularly important as girls face significant challenges on their way to school, including risks of rape, early marriage, early pregnancy, and more.

In our Bikes2School program, we have four segments:

Awareness

This is the initial segment of the Bikes2School program, where we engage with our stakeholders, including students, teachers, parents, and local government officials. Our aim is to communicate the objectives of the program, inform new beneficiaries, and collect feedback to continuously improve our efforts.

Distribution

Upon receiving bicycles from donors, we distribute them to the beneficiaries based on the number of bicycles available. Prior to distribution, we organize launching events in the respective regions. During these events, beneficiaries are trained by our mechanics on bicycle usage.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity of the distributed bicycles, we conduct maintenance in three phases throughout the year at every school where beneficiaries are enrolled. Our bicycle mechanics perform general maintenance and replace parts as necessary to sustain the program’s goals.

Bike Clubs

These clubs operate in all schools where our Bikes2School beneficiaries are enrolled. They organize various activities related to bicycles, such as fun rides and environmental initiatives. Club members also have opportunities provided by ABC Impact, such as attending our annual Impact Bike Festival held at the end of each year

Bike to School

The Goal

The primary goal of our Bike to School Project is to provide critical support to young girls who currently endure the arduous task of walking a staggering 10 kilometres to and from school each day.

Our aim is twofold: to enable these girls to attend school safely and regularly while simultaneously mitigating the alarming risk of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) they face during their lengthy journeys.
